Volunteers have been supporting both REP Here and BCBHAS since they began and are the foundation and backbone of our organizations. With a handful of staff, volunteers share their diverse knowledge, skills and experience to ensure the Black & Here Community Centre thrives.

Volunteer Roles

In this role you will assist facilitators who are putting on workshops.

Tasks will include:

  • support workshop facilitators and participants
  • help with event setup and takedown
  • assist with furniture, equipment, and A/V setup
  • support waste management and cleanup
  • greet guests, check tickets, and answer questions at the door

No experience needed — just a positive attitude and willingness to help.

Time commitment: 2–4 hours per event or workshop

Some roles may involve light lifting and moving furniture. A vehicle is helpful for waste disposal (but not required for all shifts)

Share your skill, practice, or knowledge with community and lead short, accessible workshops at our centre.

You might facilitate:

  • Creative practices
  • Cultural knowledge sharing
  • Wellness or movement
  • Skill-building workshops
  • Community conversations

No prior facilitation experience required. Our Engagement Lead will support you with workshop planning, structure, administration, and event logistics.

If you’re excited about sharing what you know and learning alongside community — we’d love to hear from you.

One of our biggest needs is volunteers who can commit to regular time at the centre and help keep the space welcoming, organized, and cared for.

Support may include:

  • Greeting visitors and answering questions
  • Supporting the library and resources area
  • Restocking print materials
  • Light organizing and tidying
  • Simply being a friendly, consistent presence in the space

Time commitment: 1+ hour per week (flexible scheduling)

This role is perfect if you enjoy community connection, consistency, and being part of the everyday life of a shared space.

We’re looking for volunteers to help support our small community library.

Tasks may include:

  • Keeping the library space tidy and welcoming
  • Stocking and organizing the library
  • Reading books, providing summaries
  • Sourcing books
  • Managing sign-outs

Time commitment: Approximately 1-2 hours a week

If you enjoy books, reading, or organizing this could be a great fit.

Help us spread the word and grow our community! Outreach volunteers support promotion and visibility for our programs and events.

You may help with:

  • Posting and distributing posters
  • Capturing social media content
  • Taking photos at events
  • Telephone outreach
  • Helping promote upcoming programs

Time commitment: Occasional / project-based
