Black Notes – Spoken Word

October 16 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

The first in a two-part Black Notes series. Black Notes Part 1 highlights Black spoken word artists and poets.

10 open mic spaces, 2 amazing headliners. Everyone welcome!

Headliners:

William Ngenda

William is a Liberian and Canadian poet. His work attempts to bring the richness of narrative and belief into a present awareness.

He has performed as a feature poet for the VPP and Planet Earth Poetry, as well as taking part in I’m:print 2024 with the ICA. He has not been featured in any publications, and considers this one of many personal moral failings.

Ifeyimika

With an eclectic mix of vulnerability, spirituality, humour, soul-driven rhythm and strength, British-Yoruba spoken word poet and multidisciplinary performance artist, Ifeyimika, blends engagingly raw lyrics, dulcet tones, and visceral movement into a delectably creative fusion all her own. A blend wholly true to her diverse background learning, living and loving on many of the world’s continents.

Ifeyimika has truly been influenced by her international upbringing and life to date, picking up multiple languages often featured in her performances. Driven by an innate curiosity, the seemingly unbreakable oneness of mankind and an insatiable desire to connect, her performances transport you into a world uniquely her own. A world of fusion and colour, with an offering of an invitation to lean in and connect.
