DESCRIPTION:Strong Together is a women’s-only fitness series built to be accessible for every body\, every age\, and every fitness level. \nNo experience or equipment needed. \nEach session is a coached Zara Chaudhry\, Certified Personal Trainer\, with low-pressure class mixing strength\, conditioning\, and mobility\, with options to scale every movement up or down so everyone can work at their own pace. Think bodyweight strength\, light dumbbell or band work\, partner-friendly circuits\, and a stretch and cool-down to close. \nRacialized and immigrant women are often excluded from fitness spaces. This is usually because of cost\, caregiving demands\, cultural stigma\, racism\, and a fitness culture that rarely reflects them. The purpose is to create a safe\, joyful space for women to build strength and confidence together\, and to give back. \nEvery class is by donation (suggested donation is $10-$20) with contributions split between the Black & Here Community Centre and the Women’s Empowerment Fund\, a pooled charity fund supporting organizations that work to prevent gender-based violence and expand women’s access to healthcare and family planning.

DESCRIPTION:Join local singer songwriter Zoë-Blue Coates for a drop-in community choir. Meeting the second Fridays for monthly sessions beginning October 9th 2026. Zoë-Blue will introduce us to the power and connectivity of collective singing. \nFor the first session we will learn Lift Every Voice and Sing written by James Weldon Johnson.  No experience is necessary. Free and open to the public.\n \nZoë-Blue Coates is an artist and historian of Afro-Caribbean and African American descent. She was born in Toronto and has lived and worked in Victoria\, British Columbia since 2015. She is the founder and editor of BioDiversity zine\, a project aimed at teaching people of all ages about the histories of ecological stewards of colour. BIPOC artists are hired and illustrate the lives of the zine’s subjects and plants associated with their work. Her work focuses on connecting folks in urban areas to land-based education through historical knowledge.

Everyone welcome! \nHeadliners: \nWilliam Ngenda \nWilliam is a Liberian and Canadian poet. His work attempts to bring the richness of narrative and belief into a present awareness. \nHe has performed as a feature poet for the VPP and Planet Earth Poetry\, as well as taking part in I’m:print 2024 with the ICA. He has not been featured in any publications\, and considers this one of many personal moral failings. \nIfeyimika \nWith an eclectic mix of vulnerability\, spirituality\, humour\, soul-driven rhythm and strength\, British-Yoruba spoken word poet and multidisciplinary performance artist\, Ifeyimika\, blends engagingly raw lyrics\, dulcet tones\, and visceral movement into a delectably creative fusion all her own. A blend wholly true to her diverse background learning\, living and loving on many of the world’s continents. \nIfeyimika has truly been influenced by her international upbringing and life to date\, picking up multiple languages often featured in her performances. SUMMARY:Strong Here: Women's Strength & Movement
DESCRIPTION:Strong Together is a women’s-only fitness series built to be accessible for every body\, every age\, and every fitness level. \nNo experience or equipment needed. \nEach session is a coached Zara Chaudhry\, Certified Personal Trainer\, with low-pressure class mixing strength\, conditioning\, and mobility\, with options to scale every movement up or down so everyone can work at their own pace. Think bodyweight strength\, light dumbbell or band work\, partner-friendly circuits\, and a stretch and cool-down to close. \nRacialized and immigrant women are often excluded from fitness spaces. This is usually because of cost\, caregiving demands\, cultural stigma\, racism\, and a fitness culture that rarely reflects them. The purpose is to create a safe\, joyful space for women to build strength and confidence together\, and to give back. \nEvery class is by donation (suggested donation is $10-$20) with contributions split between the Black & Here Community Centre and the Women’s Empowerment Fund\, a pooled charity fund supporting organizations that work to prevent gender-based violence and expand women’s access to healthcare and family planning.
